Betty Strunk, clerk

Julie called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m.

Joan made a motion to accept the December 3, 2007 minutes, Julie supported, motion carried.

Betty made a motion to approve the agenda with additions, Julie supported, motion carried.

Betty is to obtain email address for two new members.  She will also try to change the time to 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the newspaper articles regarding the plant exchange and garden talk on May 21st.  She will notify Elise if this cannot be done.

Julie noted that Phyllis Booth is making reusable bags for the recycle table at the Farmer’s Market.  Julie made a motion to pay the 7% charge to the FM of money made from the recycle table, Betty supported, motion carried.  The price for the bags will be a donation.  What to do with the remaining money will be decided at a later date.  We will be seeking donations of material for making bags.

Eleven people were in attendance at the Planet Earth series offered this past winter.

Betty stated no one has contacted her to volunteer for the Mackinaw Trail clean up.

Joan will get with Gary Edstrom to establish the lot lines so we can move forward with the bicycle camping spots.  She will also contact the area church youth groups to find out when they plan to do their clean up.

No decision has been made for a media display in the library.

The LQL is working with the LeRoy Farmers’ Market to offer more educational opportunities.  The first hour of the FM meetings will offer to community members educational viewings dealing with farming, home grown produce, gardening, etc.  Discussion will follow.  Posted on the side of the LeRoy hall are FM meeting dates.

Julie is working on a list of educational offerings to the community.  These may be offered once a month during the summer.

Julie is considering opening Morning Star to the public to generate interest in protecting the earth by walking the trails and a labyrinth.  Joan thought the WELCA would be interested in participating.  Joan suggested Julie set dates and place the information in church bulletins and possibly posters around town.

Julie noted tires could be brought to village clean up day if they were cut in quarters.

After discussion, it was decided to collect food and paper items for local food pantries.  The collection will be at the LeRoy Hall from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. the fourth Saturday of each month.  This will start in July and run through December.  At this time participation will be reviewed to see if it should be continued.

Joan is working on beautifying Mackinaw Trail by Kent Street and along the creek.  She suggested corn lilies as they are colorful and hardy.  Joan will bring this to the next village meeting.

Julie stated there would be volunteers to separate reusable items from incoming deliveries at the village clean up on May 3rd.  These items will be offered to anyone interested, and to Love, Inc., if appropriate.  Hopefully this will keep usable items from going to the landfill.

Joan will remind the village commissioners the Memorial Park’s outhouse need to be pumped.

Goals for the summer are to work on and finish existing projects.

Next meeting will be August 18, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. in the Village Hall.

Julie adjourned the meeting at 5:40 p.m.
